Welcome to tescoinferno. This is a blog dedicated to the upper-middle brow, a digital monument to time-wasting masquerading as research.
Is the blogosphere the new dole queue? No self-respecting graduate describes themselves as unemployed any more, it’s always with the bloody blogging. Since I have a feeling it’s going to be a very, very, very long time before I get a job, I guess I’d better make myself comfortable.
What’s it all about, then?
This blog is first and foremost a channel for my dubious pseudo-intellectual theories on pop music. In the words of Chris Lowe of the Pet Shop Boys, I don’t like Rock’n’Roll, I don’t like Rockabilly, I don’t like Country and Western… I don’t like much really, do I? But what I do love, I love passionately.
Favourite genres include Britpop, late 90s chart music, French synthpop of the late 1980s, dystopian new wave, novelty singles and 60s orchestral pop and film scores.
I also have the attention span of a lime, and consequently often get a bit bored of writing about songs that nobody else likes. Other subjects I might touch on here are things that interest me (obviously). These include places I have lived (London and Paris in particular), British literature of the 1980s and 90s, cooking, cigarettes, crosswords, Jacques Rivette and supermarkets.
I suspect that this may not sound very promising, but hey- I’m a not-very-promising kinda guy.
